October 2016 : YPO Conference

David Mendel was a speaker at the YPO-WPO East Central US Regional Conference in Quebec City and led special tours of the City, with a focus on architecture, art and military history. The military history tour included a special visit of the Citadel of Quebec with Brigadier-General Richard Giguère.

October 2016 : Culinary Tour

Mendel Tours organized a very special culinary tour of Quebec in cooperation with World Go and food writer Liane Faulder. This tour included a private culinary demonstration with Chef Stéphane Modat, in the kitchen of Fairmont le Château Frontenac, and tastings with specialty food producers in the city and surrounding countryside.

May 2016 : AIC

David Mendel led a series of specialized tours for the art Conservators during the post-conference tour of the American Institute for Conservation.

March 2016 : Club Musical in the Château Frontenac

David Mendel gave a special talk about the history of the Château Frontenac and the history of the Club Musical de Québec prior to a concert in the Ballroom of the hotel, as part of the centennial celebrations of the Club Musical de Québec.

January 14, 2016 : Documentary – Vie de Château

David Mendel was interviewed in a new documentary about the Château Frontenac: "Vie de Château", which was broadcast across the country for the first time on January 14, 2016.




November 15, 2015: Prize for Excellence

David Mendel’s book The Cathedral of the Holy Trinity was a awarded a prize for excellence at the annual meeting of the Conseil du patrimoine religieux du Québec (Council for Religious Architecture of Quebec)

October 31, 2015: Video featuring David Mendel is presented by the Mayor of Quebec City

Before 335 Mayors and city representatives from across North America, the mayor of Quebec City, Régis Labeaume, launched a new video that features David Mendel presenting the French Heritage of the Seminary of Quebec. This video can be viewed on the web site of the Francophone and Francophile Cities Network.

October 27, 2015

Barry Lane, co-founder and former vice-president of Mendel Tours launched his new book Canadian Pacific: The Golden Age of Travel at the Château Frontenac. This richly illustrated book, published in English by Goose Lane, and in French, by les Éditions Sylvain Harvey, under the title Canadien Pacifique, l’empire du voyage has been greated with enthusiastic reviews across the country. April 15, 2015: Medal of the Quebec Historical Society

David Mendel was honoured with the Médaille de reconnaissance of the Quebec Historical Society at ceremony at the Garrison Club.




October 2014: Conference of the Association for Preservation Technology

David Mendel was keynote speaker for the Association for Preservation Technology, experts in conservation of historic buildings from around the world who gathered at Fairmont le Château Frontenac in Quebec City, for their Annual Conference. Mendel Tours worked with the organizing committee to provide specialized field visits of historic sites in Quebec City where major restoration and adaptive use projects are taking place.

Mendel Tours provided protocol tours for:
- Cardinal Jaime Ortega y Almino, visiting Quebec as the Pope’s representative
- Mr. Joachim Gauk, president of Germany
- Admiral Sun Jianguo, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the People’s Liberation Army of China

July 1, 2014: Marina Belzile, Partner and Vice-President

We are very pleased to announce that Marina Belzile is now Vice-President of Mendel Tours. Marina, who also serves as Honorary Consul of Switzerland in Quebec City, has many years of experience in the travel business and speaks six languages fluently. She has collaborated with Mendel Tours on various projects for over 15 years and we are very happy that she has accepted David Mendel’s invitation to become a full partner in the company and take Barry Lane’s place as vice-president. Marina’s considerable organizational skills and experience will be a great asset to the Mendel Tours.

July 1, 2014: Co-founder Barry Lane leaves Mendel Tours

After 30 years with the Mendel Tours, vice-president and co-founder Barry Lane has decided to withdraw from company to go into semi-retirement. Barry is spending the winter of 2015-2016 in Russia and will return to Canada in the spring to continue part-time in the travel business, lecturing part of the year on cruise ships and leading occasional trips for museums and alumni associations. He is  also working on the last stages of a richly-illustrated book on the history of Canadian Pacific during the Golden Age of Travel.

May 2014: Conference of Chief Executive Officers

David Mendel was a keynote speaker for the Annual Conference of Chief Executive Officers, held at Fairmont the Château Frontenac. Mendel Tours provided tours for these presidents of important companies and their spouses. Each couple received a copy of David Mendel’s book Quebec: World Heritage City.

March 13 2014: David Mendel, Tourism Personality of the Year

David Mendel was honoured as Tourism Personality of the Year at the annual awards gala of the Quebec City Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
